CDR Rockstar Yamaha have claimed their second Australian Motocross Championship victory in a row with Jay Marmont yesterday beating his team-mate, Cheyne Boyd at the eighth and final round of the series at the Coolum Pines Motocross Park on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Marmont took the championship victory in stunning style and won the round by finishing first, second and first in each of the three 20 minute races contested yesterday.

The victory ensured that Marmont was the only man to finish on the podium at all rounds of the series and there was a 21 point buffer between himself and Boyd when the points for the year had been tallied.

“It was an unreal day, I qualified first and from there won the first race and then got second to Boydy [Cheyne Boyd] in the second [race] and then won the last moto,” said Marmont following the presentation for the series where he received the coveted golden helmet.

“The best thing about the day was that I was able to race the day on my terms and it was just the perfect way to finish the championship for my family, friends and fans who have supported me throughout the year.

“My plan for the round was to show my dominance and my speed and that’s what we did in each of the three races. It was a great day and it feels fantastic to be able to have that number one plate again next year.”

Boyd was second for the round and championship after getting two thirds and a first in each of the three motos. With him occupying the second step of the podium for the round and year, CDR Rockstar Yamaha took their total number of consecutive dual podiums for the year to six which was a new record in the premier dirt bike series.

“I’m really happy for Jay [Marmont] and pumped with my result for the season,” said Boyd, “Hopefully in 2010 I can start off where I left this season and record some moto and round victories earlier in the championship so it is even closer going into the final round.”

“From round three onwards I felt awesome and it was great to win six motos in a row and then to win even more races and to take four consecutive round victories - it was a huge achievement not only for myself but also for the team who have put in a lot of effort over the last few months.”

“Based upon my results from motocross, I can’t wait for Super X to start in a few months time. I’ve started building some new tracks around my home in Victoria and hopefully we’ll be on top again towards the end of the season.”

CDR Rockstar Yamaha Team Principal, Craig Dack said he was proud of the achievements of his two riders with Marmont’s victory the team’s 12th Australian Motocross Championship, taking the team’s total number of national championships to 26 since the highly respected outfit was formed in 1993.

“As a team owner, to have my two riders fighting out for the championship going into the final round is an awesome achievement for CDR Rockstar Yamaha,” Dack said. “The boys have worked hard all year and have really pushed each other to the results they have achieved on track.”

“I couldn’t ask for more from either of the guys and I congratulate them both on a successful motocross season for the team.”

CDR Rockstar Yamaha will now turn their attention to preparing the upcoming Australasian Supercross Championship [Super X] which commences in Tasmania on Saturday October 17, 2009.
